Abstract Details

Purpose:

To demonstrate the usefulness of artiflex toric lens in correcting high astigmatism in pseudophakic patients

Setting:

Private Practice. Policlinic Lleida, Spain

Methods:

A pseudophakic 79 years-old man presented a residual refraction of 90º -6 -1.25 with corrected visual acuity of 0.7. To correct this refractive defect an artiflex toric (phakic lens) (0º-5 -1,50) was implanted on the axis of 90º . The maximun cylinder power available for this lens is -5D. An iridian rupture at 10 h o´clock in the same eye was sutured in the same act.

Results:

The refractive result was 135 ° -1 with a visual acuity of 0.7. Secondary complications were not observed

Conclusions:

Models of phakic lenses to correct high astigmatism can be used also in pseudophakic patients. Flexible models are desirable to minimally modify the pre-existing astigmatism.
