Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the predictions of Verion (Alcon) vs IOL Master (zeiss) in determining toric IOL power.

Setting:

Private Clinic Personaleyes, Australia

Methods:

A  retrospective study was conducted on 360 eyes  that  underwent  cataract  surgery. Preoperative  Keratometry readings  were obtained using  the IOL master  optical  biometer (Zeiss IOLMaster  500) and the Verion Reference Unit  (Alcon). Toric IOL  predictions  were  made using the Barrett  online Toric  Calculators. The number  of  eyes where  the  recommended toric IOL differed by 2 steps or more (eg.  T3 to T5  or greater or vice versa) was determined and the predicted outcome was  ompared  with the final subjective refraction  for accuracy.

Results:

The  average keratometry values measured using an IOL  master and  Verion Reference Unit, show a strong correlation, with a correlation co-efficient of 1.00. In 12% of cases there was a T2 or more difference when the keratometry was compared between IOL master and Verion. In these 12% of cases the Verion was accurate 61% of the time.

Conclusions:

The Verion may be more accurate in determining IOL toric power than Zeiss IOL Master
