Visual and refractive outcomes of the bioanalogic, polyfocal lens WIOL-CF after 3 months follow-up

Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to assess the visual and refractive outcomes of the bioanalogic, polyfocal lens WIOL-CF after 3 months follow-up.
Setting:
Medipolis, Antwerp Private Clinic, Belgium
Methods:
14 eyes of 7 patients underwent implantation of bioanalogic, polyfocal WIOL-CF lens (MEDICEM Technology s.r.o., Czech Republic). All surgeries were performed by one surgeon using FLACS. The lens power calculation was based on the Haigis formula. Main outcomes were evaluated during a 3 month follow-up period and included: binocular and monocular uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), refraction, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), distance corrected visual acuity (DCVA) and questionnaire with optical phenomena and spectacle independence evaluations.
Results:
The mean monocular logMAR results after three months : UCDVA 0.07±0.09; UCIVA 0.01±0.05; UCNVA 0.06±0.05; BCDVA 0.02±0.04; BCNVA 0.04±0.05; DCNVA 0.06±0.05. The mean sphere -0.25±0.43 D (ranging from -1.50 to 0.00D). The mean binocular logMAR results: UCDVA 0.05±0.05; UCIVA 0.00±0.06; UCNVA 0.06±0.05. No adverse events were found during the follow-up period. All patients were spectacle free. No complaints of excessive halos or glare were reported (only one patient reported mild phenomena).
Conclusions:
Bioanalogic, polyfocal IOL implantation after FLACS was a safe and effective method for pseudophakic presbyopia correction in patients at all distances.
