Abstract Details

Purpose:

There were concerns regarding the visual outcomes of new model of asymmetric refractive intraocular lens (IOL; Lentis Mplus X). We attempted to compare the visual outcome after implantation of two types of asymmetric refractive IOLs, Lentis Mplus X and Lentis Mplus MF30 in Korean eyes.

Setting:

Tertiary resident-training hospital

Methods:

21 eyes of 17 patients in whom the Lentis Mplus X IOL was implanted (Mplus X group) and 52 eyes of 40 patients in whom the Lentis Mplus MF30 IOL (Mplus MF30 group) was implanted, were included. The uncorrected distance, intermediate, and near visual acuity (UCDVA, UCIVA, and UCNVA, respectively), manifest refraction, and reading speed were checked one week, and one and six months after surgery.

Results:

At one week postoperatively, The UCDVA (logMAR) in Mplus X and Mplus MF30 groups were 0.14±0.04 and 0.10±0.03, respectively (p=0.32). At one month, The UCDVA in Mplus X and Mplus MF30 groups at one month were 0.09±0.11 and 0.12±0.13, respectively (p=0.37). However, the manifest refraction in Mplus X and Mplus MF30 groups were -0.48±0.68 and -0.14±0.59, respectively (p=0.04). The reading speed (letters/min) in Mplus X and Mplus MF30 groups were 229.7±42.0 and 182.9±53.3, respectively (p<0.001). At six months, The UCDVA in Mplus X and Mplus MF30 groups were 0.06±0.09 and 0.09±0.14, respectively (p=0.22).

Conclusions:

The refractive aspheric multifocal lentis Mplus X IOL which improved the near works showed myopic refractive error but better reading speed and improvement of intermediate visual acuity in the postoperative period, compared with the lentis Mplus MF30 IOL in Korean eyes.
