Abstract Details
Purpose:
To determine the correlation between angle kappa (K), angle alpha (A), Total post operative spherical aberrations (TPOSAs) with the satisfaction levels measured using Visual Function 14 Quality Of Life Questionnaire (VF-14-QOL) in patients implanted with Bilateral Diffractive Aspheric Multifocal IOLs (MFIOLS).
Setting:
A Tertiary eye care hospital and Postgraduate Training Centre in Bangalore, India
Methods:
Patients opting for bilateral diffractive aspheric MFIOL implantation were included in the study. Six weeks postop Angle Kappa, Angle Alpha and TPOSAs were measured with ray tracing aberrometry (iTrace). They were filling the VF-14-QOL questionnaire at the same visit. As the data was found to be non-normative with Shapiro-Wilk test, Spearman’s co efficient of correlation was used to test for significance and values of <0.05 was taken as positive
Results:
54 eyes of 27 patients were included, mean age 62.03+/-9.91 years, uncorrected vision was 20/20 and N6 in all patients, Mean Residual Spherical Equivalents in MFIOL were -0.17 D in right and 0.075 D left eyes respectively. Mean TPOSA was 0.001µ +/- 0.04µ(median -0.005), Mean VF 14 Score was 94.56+/-6.99(97.22), Mean Angle kappa was 0.24 mm+/-0.22 mm(0.21), Mean Angle Alpha was 0.34mm±0.17mm(0.37).
Statistical analysis showed VF14 was inversely correlated to Spherical Aberration (Spearman's rho -0.320 p=0.02) and was statistically significant.
The VF14 was not significantly correlated to Angle Kappa (Spearman's rho 0.216 p=0.12)
The VF14 was inversely correlated to Angle Alpha (Spearman's rho -0.060 p=0.67) but not significant
Conclusions:
Increased spherical aberrations in our set of patients correlated well with decrease in satisfaction scores. However patient satisfaction did not significantly correlate with angle alpha and angle kappa.
