Abstract Details

Purpose:

Expectations of patients are in different areas pushing forward our pratice. Compensation of presbyopia is one of them and remains challenging especially in astigmatic patients and when considering the ratio between efficacy and side effects. We retrospectively studied the refractive rotationally asymetric lens (Comfort® toric) that is expected to provide an intermediate vision and is available preloaded with a toric correction.

Setting:

Hospital 15-20, Paris, France

Methods:

We retrospectively studied our astigmatic cataract patients that had been implanted from february to june 2016 with the Comfort® toric lens, after exclusion of any retinal pathology. For those who had expressed expectations of multifocality they had been given a detailed information about presbyopia compensation and proposed an intermediate compensation associated with toric correction.

Results:

Twenty eight patients were included, that had been operated and examined one month after surgery. In addition to refractive results, we looked for contrast sensitivity (Metrovision Win8000E), quality of life (NEI-RQL 42 questionnaire) and reading performances with the Salzbourg Reading Desk.

Conclusions:

Rotationally asymetric refractive lens can be considered for our cataract patients presenting with astigmatism above 1.5d and interested in multifocality. It provides a satisfying compromise. Quality of vision and quality of live reach the levels of non toric intermediate refractive lens.
