Comparison of early changes in vault after posterior chamber phakic implantable collamer lens with and without a central hole (ICL V4 and ICL V4c) implantation and the factors affecting vault

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To objectively compare the early changes in vault over time after implantation of Implantable Collamer Lens without (ICL V4) and with (ICL V4c) a central hole and the respective factors affecting vault change for moderate to high myopia.
Setting:
The Department of Ophthalmology,Eye& ENT Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai, China
Methods:
This prospective Study comprised 45 eyes of 24 patients implanted with ICL V4 and 52 eyes of 28 patients implanted with ICL V4c. We quantitatively assessed the postoperative values of vault and pupil size at 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after the implantation, using a rotating Scheimpflug camera (Pentacam). We compared these postoperative values within the two groups and identify the factors related to vault change.
Results:
The mean vault 1 day, 1 week, and 1 month after the ICL V4 implantation were 271.11 ± 179.22 um, 503.78 ± 168.04 um, 520.44 ± 163.22 um , and those of ICL V4c were 410.96 ± 218.89 um, 498.85 ± 195.37um, 496.54 ± 195.56 um, respectively. There was significant difference between the vault at day 1 and week 1, and day 1 and month 1 both inboth groups. There was significant association between the vault changes and the pupil size changes in both groups from day 1to month 1postoperatively.The vault value 1 month after implantation of ICL V4 were associated with ACD and horizontal corneal diameter.
Conclusions:
The pupil movement was a critical factor to the vault change. The anterior chamber depth, horizontal corneal diameter and patient age just show some association with vault change, with increasing vault observed from day 1 to week 1 postoperatively accompany with the declining of miotic effects.
