Anterior chamber changes after implantable contact lens implantation in high myopia

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the changes of anterior chamber (AC) of the eye after implantable contact lens (ICL) implantation in high myopia by using Pentacam.
Setting:
Ophthalmology department, benha faculty of medicine, Benha University.
Methods:
A prospective study included 34 high myopic eyes (20 patients). All patients were treated with VISIAN implantable collamer lens (ICL) (Staar Surgical Co). Pentacam (wavelight Oculyzer, Alcon surgical Co) was done for all cases preoperatively and one month postoperatively. AC angle (ACA), AC volume (ACV), central AC depth (CACD), central corneal thickness (CCT), pupil diameter (PD) and K readings were recorded.
Results:
The study included 34 eyes of 20 patients, 12 female (60%) and 8 males (40%). Mean ACA was 36.93±1.75 ° preoperatively and 27.61±2.64 ° postoperatively (t value= 17.18, P <0.001). Mean ACV was 191.24±11.18 mm³ preoperatively and 141.53±16.77 mm³ postoperatively ( t value= 14.37, P <0.001). Mean CACD was 3.59±0.17 mm preoperatively and 3.23±0.14 mm postoperatively ( t value= 9.53, P <0.001). There was no statistically significant differences between preoperative and postoperative measurements of CCT, PD and K readings
Conclusions:
ICL implantation for correction of high myopia leads to significant changes in anterior chamber angle, volume and depth and insignificant changes in pupil diameter, CCT and K readings.
