Abstract Details

Purpose:

To diagnose and treat children with preventable blindness due to vit a deficiency in the underprivileged rural and tribal hamlets through our out reach programs

Setting:

STUDENT CLASS : 1st TO 10th GRADE In schools for the underprivileged rural and tribal areas of Maharashtra, India.

Methods:

Screening of all school children in batches for visual acuity, color vision test, ocular surface examination and undialated fundus examination

Results:

Majority of these children had conjunctival xerosis, bitots spots,keratomalacia and few had night blindness

Conclusions:

Appropriate dietary intake of Vit A can prevent visual problems .
