Results of patching therapy in late diagnosed adult amblyopia

Abstract Details
Purpose:
To study whether conventional patching treatment can improve visual function in adults with amblyopia.
Setting:
Krishna Eye Care, Mumbai, India
Methods:
27 patients with amblyopic eyes in age group 25–57years were instructed to patch the non-amblyopic eye for at least 2 hours per day and to wear glasses for refractive correction regularly.Visual acuity was checked for distance and near every 3 months and followed for 18 months.Any improvement of 1 or more lines for distance n near visual acuity were evaluated.
Results:
Of 27 patients, vision of 7 improved by 2 or more lines,4 improved by 1 line, and 11 improved by 1/2 a line on the distant vision chart.
Conclusions:
Conventional patching treatment does improve the visual acuity of amblyopic eyes even in adult patients.
