Abstract Details

Purpose:

Surgical wound closure is improving day by day. Sutures are being replaced by clip, glue, etc. To evaluate outcomes of using Fibrin Glue in different ophthalmic surgeries.

Setting:

Disha Eye Hospitals, Barrackpore, Kolkata, India

Methods:

1014 cases since 2010 retrospectively reviewed. Lid wounds (80 cases) in ptosis, entropion, conjunctival closure in pterygium, squints (863 cases), Glued IOL (57 cases), and Torn Lasik Flap (1 case) were included. Wound strength, Mean Surgical time, and Cosmesis were evaluated.

Results:

Wound stability was excellent in about 99% cases. Mean surgical time was significantly faster in all categories. Cosmesis was subjectively improved in 85% cases. Skin wound infection in 2, Hypertrophic scar in 7, and graft loss occurred in 1 pterygium case.

Conclusions:

Use of fibrin glue for wound closures in ophthalmic reconstructive surgeries can really be a great boon.
