Comparison of anterior chamber depth measurement between OCT, scanning-slit topography and IOLMaster biometer, in a myopic population

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the anterior chamber depth (ACD) measurements using optical coherence tomography (SL-OCT), scanning-slit topography (Orbscan) and IOL Master biometer in a myopic population.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Centro Hospitalar de Vila Nova de Gaia/ Espinho, Portugal

Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 43 myopic eyes from 23 patients that had anterior chamber depth evaluated by Optical Coherence Tomography (SL-OCT), scanning-slit (Orbscan) and IOL Master biometer. The difference between measurements with the three methods was calculated and a correlation with the spherical equivalent of the eyes was explored. Agreement was analyzed using mean differences between methods, and Bland-Altman analysis with 95% limits of agreement (LoA) (1,96 standard deviation of the difference).

Results:

The mean spherical equivalent was -8,79 ± 1,82D (range -12,38 to -4,63D). The mean ACD was 3,49± 0,26 mm with OCT, 3,29 ± 0,24 mm with Orbscan and 3,34 ± 0,23 mm with IOL Master. All methods were significantly different from each other (p<0,01). No correlation was found between the spherical equivalent and the difference between methods.

Conclusions:

ACD was measured highest by OCT and lowest with Orbscan. All methods showed significantly different measurements from each other and this difference was present and consistent regardless of the spherical equivalent.
