Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evalute the results of wavefront optimalized LASEK in children, when refractive error was only in one eye - our experiences.
Setting:
Eye Clinic Doftall Zilina, ophth.department Trebisov, Slovakia
Methods:
13 children (Ø age: 11.09±2.91y) patients who underwent WFO LASEK treatments in one eye (second eye without refr. error) using the Allegretto Wave Eye-Q 400 Hz Excimer Laser System between years 2012 - 2015 with Ø optical zone: 6.5mm, transition zone: 1.25mm, ablation zone: 9.0mm. Mean preop. UCVA: 0.09 ± 0.06, preop. BCVA: 0.72 ± 0.14. Outcomes were recorded in UCVA, MRSE, BCVA and complications at 1month, 3M, 6M, 1year post-op.
Results:
All surgeries were performed without complications, by one surgeon. Lasek reduced preoperative myopia (3 eyes) and preop. astigmatizmus (10 eyes). Mean operated refractive sphere error was: -4.72±2.17D and cylinder was: -2.42±2.42. CCT preop. was: 565.5um. Subjective ocular discomfort ( pain, lacrimation and photophobia) was reduced by using contact lens for 4days postop. In 1year postop. Ø UCVA was: 0.92 ± 0.22.
Conclusions:
WFO treatment in children with refractive error in cases of anisometropia was safe and effective procedure. Preoperative myopia and astigmatizmus were effectively reduced by LASEK.
