Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate whether the ocular elasticity of the pseudophakic eyes differ from the phakic eyes.
Setting:
Diskapi Yildirim Beyazit Training and Research Hospital, Ankara, Turkey
Methods:
The elastography findings of right eyes of 6 patients with acrylic intraocular lens for more than 1 year (Group L) were compared with 6 healthy subjects (Group C). Elastography was performed by GE Logiq E9™ ultrasound elastography with 9L linear probe (General Electric Company, USA). The stiffness -by shear-wave elastography- of anterior and posterior components of orbital tissues were measured in kiloPascal unit.
Results:
The gender distribution (male/female: 5/1 for group L and 3/3 for group C, chi-square test, p= 0.545) and age (64.7±13.2 for group L and 61.3±7.4 for group C) were similar in both groups. The elasticity of of all orbital tissues (cornea, lens, optic nerve head, retrobulbar nerve, sclera-retina, retrobulbar fat) were found to be similar.
Conclusions:
This preliminary study revealed indifference between control and operated eyes. These findings may be attributed to the small size of the groups, or inability of the present devices to make precise measurements in this specific patient group.
