Abstract Details
Purpose:
The aim of the present study was to determine the levels of inflammation related cytokines in the aqueous humor and serum of patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome.
Setting:
tabriz university of medical sciences
Methods:
In this study we measured the level of inflammatory markers such as Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha, Interleukin-10 in the aqueous humor and serum of 30 patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome and compared the results with 30 healthy controls.
Results:
Results:Aqueous humor obtained from patients with pseudoexfoliation syndrome showed increased levels of Interleukin -10 and Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha (p=0.01, p=0.002). The serum levels of Interleukin-10 and Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha in pseudoexfoliation syndrome group was significantly higher than those of the control group(p=0.01, p=0.001)
Conclusions:
Pseudoexfoliation syndrome is associated with molecular inflammatory response in aqueous humor and serum.
