Abstract Details
Purpose:
To measure the ocular blood flow (OBF) parameters in the patients of POAG and PACG.
Setting:
Tertiary care hospital
Methods:
This was a cross sectional study done on the patients diagnosed with POAG, PACG and normal controls. The patients were subjected to detailed ocular examination. Written and informed consent was taken from all the participants as per Helsinki's decleration. The study was approved from the ethics committee of the institution.The patients were subjected to color doppler imaging on M-Turbo Ultrasound System (Sonosite ,Inc. Bothell, WA, US). The OBF parameters like peak systolic velocity (PSV), end diastolic velocity (EDV) and resistivity index (RI) were calculated in central retinal artery. Systemic evaluation included blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR) measurements.
Results:
Twenty five eyes with PACG and 25 eyes with POAG along with 30 eyes in the control group were included that were age and sex matched. Mean IOP, central corneal thickness, systolic BP, diastolic BP and HR were same in all the groups with no statistically significant difference. Mean PSV was 11.46 (3.7) in PACG, 9.61 (2.1) in POAG and 13.99 (4.7) in Controls. The difference was statistically significant between all three groups (p<0.05). Similarly EDV was found to be least in POAG followed by PACG and was maximum in Controls. RI was statistically not different in the three group. Pearson's correlation coefficient showed a negative correlation between IOP and OBF para meters.
Conclusions:
The OBF parameters are effected most in the patients with POAG than in patients with PACG.
