Abstract Details
Purpose:
Introduction:
Darkly pigmented Indian eyes have a high rate of bleb failure following trabeculectomy in the long term, due to subconjunctival fibrosis. Ologen implants were introduced to minimise subconjunctival fibrosis and increase long term bleb survival.
Setting:
 Retrospective case series
Sample size:14
Male:female 10:4
Avg age:61.6y
Data for all 14 available at 1 year follow up while data for 2 and 3 year follow up available for 10 and 6 patients respectively
Methods:
Ologen implant is usually placed in the subconjunctival space anteriorly, right over the scleral flap. The author devised a novel technique of placing the ologen implant in the subconjunctival space but at a location posterior to the flap incision.
Results:
 Median pre op IOP: 24
Medain IOP at 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 1 year was 13,13.5 and 13.5 respectively while for 2 year and 3 year followups, it was 16.5 and 15.5 respectively
Mean difference between pre op IOP and 2 week ,6 week, 1year IOP was 11.86,15.86 and 10.86 respectively (p<0.05% Wilcoxon signed rank test for paired data ).
Mean difference between pre op IOP and 2year, 3year IOP was 15.3 and 16 respectively (p<0.05% Wilcoxon signed rank test for paired data )
Conclusions:
Remotely placed ologen implant is a effective way to minimise long term bleb failure post trabeculectomy .
