Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the intra-operative performance and post-operative outcomes in eyes undergoing femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery versus eyes undergoing phacoemulsification in eyes having shallow anterior chamber

Setting:

Raghudeep Eye Hospital, Ahmedabad - , India.

Prospective, randomised clinical trial. Patients undergoing phacoemulsification for age-related cataracts and a shallow anterior chamber (measured as

Results:

Ongoing Study,Results will be updated at time of presentation.Preliminary data(40 eyes) reported here.Day 1, mean CCT in Group 1 and 2 was 565+35u and 589+28u(P=0.03).Day 1,Percentage change in CCT from baseline was 11%(Group 1) versus 19%(Group 2)(P=0.04).There was no significant difference in mean CCT or percentage change in CCT between both groups at 1 week and 1 month.Proportion of eyes with >Grade 2 cells in the anterior chamber was higher in Group 2 compared to Group 1 at day 1(30% vs 23%) and 1 week(27% vs 20%),but similar at 1 week.Change in endothelial cell density comparable between two groups

Conclusions:

The preliminary results show that Femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery seems to lead to lesser anterior chamber inflammation and lesser increase in corneal thickness on postoperative day 1, in eyes with shallow anterior chamber.
