Abstract Details

Purpose:

Examine and show the efficacy of arquate keratotomies (AK) performed in our first 1.000 cases with Catalys femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery platform.

Setting:

Insituto Oftalmológico Tres Torres (Spain).

Methods:

An observational and analytic retrospective study was done in 1000 consecutive eyes of adult patients who were performed cataract surgery with Catalys femtosecond laser in our clinic. Out of the total, 590 patients (59%) were performed AK with the femtosecond laser depending on the preoperative keratometric astigmatism guided by an own nomogram. All the surgeries were done in patients with regular astigmatism, performing the AK in the steepest axis.

Results:

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy based on the results of postperative corneal astigmatism compared with the preoperative ones after performing AK with Catalys. We also analyzed the global astigmatism medium correction, and in every classification os astigmatism types: with the rule, against the rule or oblique. All incidences, if happen, where written down.

Conclusions:

The astigmatism reduction is mandatory to obtain good unaided visual acuities postoperatively, specially in patients with multifocal IOL implantation. For that, the performance of arkuate keratotomies with femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery platform Catalys could be a safe and effective technique.
