Abstract Details
Purpose:
Viral keratitis caused by the family of Herpes viruses including Herpes simplex virus, Varicella Zoster, Epstein-Barr and Cytomegalovirus; they can cause a wide variety of clinical appearance, representing a diagnostic challenge. Herpetic epithelial keratitis may manifest in atypical presentations that include: marginal ulcers, multiple microdendrites, or “achipelago keratitis”.

Methods:
We report two cases of “archipelago keratitis” one associated with herpes zoster ophthalmic and the other with Herpes Simplex
Results:
Both cases slowly responded to topical and systemic antiviral and anti-inflammatory therapy.
Conclusions:
Archipelago keratitis may present with a variety of clinical features
Early diagnosis of atypical herpetic ocular disease prevents scarring that can compromise vision and cause ocular comorbidities
