Abstract Details
Purpose:
to assess the results of corneal cross-linking performed with the use of Russian equipment simultaneously on both eyes to treat the progressive keratoconus
Setting:
S. Fyodorov IR&TC “Eye Microsurgery”, St.Petersburg branch, Russian Federation
Methods:
The study included 18 patients (36 eyes) with primary keratoconus stage I-II. Corneal cross-linking was performed by standard method (Zurich protocol), using Russian UV-devices and solution of riboflavin. In the main group corneal cross-linking was provided simultaneously on both eyes, in the control group - consistently
Results:
In the main and control groups there were no significant differences between the severity of corneal syndrome, rate of epithelialization, functional and refractive results and endothelial cells density (p>0.05)
Conclusions:
Simultaneous on both eyes corneal cross-linking is effective method to treat keratoconus and significantly reduce the duration of the procedure
