Abstract Details

Purpose:

To show the utility of intracameral fibrin glue in corneal perforation.

Setting:

La Mancha-Centro Hospital, Alcázar de San Juan

Methods:

We present four cases with corneal perforation. In all of them we introduced the fibrin tissue adhesive (Tissucol®, Baxter Labs) using a 27 G needle. Also, two amniotic membrane patches were cut with the epithelium facing upwards.

Results:

In the immediate post-surgery period, the amniotic membrane remained in position and the chamber was reshaped with the tissue adhesive covering the perforation on its endothelial side. After 3-4 weeks, the tissue adhesive had dissolved completely and the perforation had sealed.

Conclusions:

Fibrin adhesives are hemostatic agents that reproduce the last steps of the coagulation cascade. These adhesives are biocompatible, biodegradable and with low toxicity for corneal surfaces. The use of these adhesives in the anterior chamber is an useful and easily solution for treating small corneal perforation.
