Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe medium term outcomes of a surgical trial into Descemetorhexis as a primary intervention for Fuchs' Dystrophy.
Setting:
Sydney Eye Hospital, Sydney, Australia
Methods:
Prospective non randomised surgical trial. Cases meeting inclusion criteria otherwise contemplating endothelial keratoplasty enrolled for Descemetothexis. Pre and post operative acuity, contrast sensitivity, pachymetry and refraction recorded. Pre and post operative cell counts and morphology recorded via confocal microscopy. Sputum collected from all patients for genetic analysis.
Results:
Corneas cleared with improvement of visual acuity in 5 cases. 5 cases under observation with results to be reported at time of meeting.
Conclusions:
Descemetorhexis appears to be a valid temporising option to endothelial keratoplasty for guttate predominant Fuchs' dystrophy.
