Outflow of interocular fluid through corneal path

Abstract Details

Purpose:

Regulation of IOP happens as a result of outflow of intraocular fluid through trabecular and uveoscleral paths. In recent years outflow of intraocular fluids through optic nerve has become popular. Increase of IOP in some young people after laser correction of vision (FRK and LASIK) hints on implication of cornea in regulation of IOP. The purpose of this research is identifying role of cornea in regulation of IOP.

Setting:

The clinical research has been conducted in the department of refractive surgery of International Center of Eye Disease, Ashgabat Turkmenistan.

Methods:

Research was conducted on 12 rabbits (chinchilla). Rabbit eyes were subjected to FRK within the range of 60-100 microns. Histomorphologicalдн 3 signs were studied: 1) Correlation of thickness of cornea in the center to its thickness in the area of limb; 2) Length of interplate spaces of stroma of cornea in the area of limb. 3) Width of interplate spaces of stroma of cornea in the area of limb.

Results:

It was histomorphologcally established that correlation of thickness of cornea in the center and in its periphery changes towards increasing in the area of limb on 7-14 days. Restoration of these correlation occurs by 30th day. However the average length and widths of interplate spaces significantly change after the surgery, and during one months do not restore to normal indicators. Therefore aggregated data on length and width of of interplate spaces of stroma of cornea in the area of limb in normal condition, and in different terms after FRK has indicated statistically significant differences.

Conclusions:

Experimental study that was published by us previous year, we have suggested hypothesis that along the known paths of outflow intraocular fluid also exists the corneal path of fluid outflow. Results yielded from the current study indicate that length and width of of interplate spaces of stroma of cornea in the area of limb after conducting FRK statistically increases compared to norm. From our point of view due to the block after FRK in center of cornea redistribution of filtered flow through the cornea of intraocular fluid ooccurs in direction of undamaged areas of cornea as result of surgery.
