Abstract Details
Purpose:
To compare the various methods for Intra ocular power (IOL) calculation post radial keratotomy (RK) and to predict the accurate method.
Setting:
This study was conducted in Laxmi Eye Institute, Panvel, India
Methods:
Retrospective interventional case series of 26 post RK eyes of 18 patients who underwent IOL implantation. IOL power calculated using keratometry values of IOL-M, corneal topography and ESCRS formula. The predicted refractive error with each was compared to actual post op refraction due to implanted IOL power.
Results:
Mean age-50.6 years (SD 8.0). Median error with each method was IOL-M 1.23 [IQR -1.71 to -0.50], Topo -1.0 [IQR -1.98 to -1.5] & ESCRS -0.56 [IQR -1.35 to -0.12]. Multivariate linear regression analysis showed a unit increase in simK was significantly associated with post operative SEQ errors (0.55 [95% CI 0.07 to 1.03 p=0.03], least in ESCRS (0.29 [95% CI -0.2 to 0.60 p=0.06]).
Conclusions:
Most accurate method for IOL calculation in post RK eyes was by ESCRS formula yielding least post op residual refractive error.
