Analysis of the effectiveness of combined physiotherapy treatment of postoperative uveitis after phacoemulsification of cataract

Abstract Details
Purpose:
Comparative estimation of the results of the use of different kinds of physiotherapy treatment at the patients with postoperative uveitis after phacoemulsification of cataract.
Setting:
The present research summarizes the results of the clinical analysis of uveal postoperative pathology in 45 patients (50 eyes). Age of patients: 49 – 68 years. Men: 26 (57,8%); women: 19 (42,2%).
Methods:
The investigation was carried in three groups of patients with postoperative cystic macular edema received at the same time basic therapy and different kinds of physiotherapy treatment: the first group 12 patients (14 eyes)-maqnetotherapy; the second group-16 patients (19 eyes)-maqnetotherapy and laser stimulation; the third group-17 patients (17 eyes)-maqnetotherapy, laser stimulation and electrophoresis of 0,1% dexamethasone solution.
The scope of research included: a detailed medical history, a standard set of ophthalmological examination, specific laboratory diagnostic methods, and expert consultations of related specialties. To compare macular thicknesses in healthy subjects measured with spectral domain optical coherence tomography (Cirrus HD-OCT, Carl Zeiss).
Results:
Thickness of central macular retinal areas before treatment: in I group - 549±14,2 microm; in II group - 569±12,7 microm; in III group - 565±14,3 microm. Thickness of central macular retinal areas after treatment: in I group - 419±9,5 microm; in II group - 406±8,9 microm; in III group - 338±9,2 microm. Regression of postoperative cystic macular edema was truly more significant in two weeks observation and use of combined physiotherapy treatment in the third patients group (P<0,01).
Conclusions:
Inclusion of combination various types' physiotherapy procedures into anti-inflammatory therapy of postoperative uveitis potentiate and stabilize the effect of applying preparations in an injection form.
