Abstract Details
Purpose:
To design a technique of posterior chamber IOL fixation in the absence of capsular support.
Setting:
Research was executed in surgical department of InterYuNA Eye Clinic, Rostov-on-Don, Russia.
Methods:
14 aphakic patients with various causes of capsular bag absence were operated. We used the monoblock IOL with openings in planner haptics. Through haptics openings on each IOL side we passed two polypropylene threads with curved 15 mm needles on both ends. Needles in pairs were passed through the iris from its back surface at 3 and 9 o'clock and removed outside through cornea. IOL was implanted into the posterior chamber using forceps. Needles were cut off, and the ends of threads were removed in side ports. Threads were pulled evenly and tied, knots were moved into the anterior chamber.
Results:
The correct IOL position in the posterior chamber with good stability to frontal plane was achieved in all cases.
Conclusions:
The presented technique is simple, atraumatic, giving chance to achieve correct centering and stable IOL position in the posterior chamber in cases of capsular support absence.
