Abstract Details
Purpose:
Low-add multifocal IOLs have the advantage of little side effects e.g. halos but the disadvantage of limited unaided new vision.
Setting:
Ardjomand - Eye -Surgery, Graz; Austria
Methods:
20 patients underwent bilateral cataract surgery with low-add multifocal IOL (Oculentis Comfort , Germany) implantation. Target refraction was plano in the dominant eye and -0,75 in the other eye.Postoperative examination included monocular and binocular UDVA, UNVA. A subjective questionnaire was also completed a the last examination three months after operation.
Results:
The postoperative refraction was between +0,5 SE and -1,25 SE. The binocular UDVA was 20/20 in all patients and 18/20 patients reported to use randomly reading glasses. None of the patients reported about halos at night.
Conclusions:
Low-add multifocal IOLs can give very good unaidded distance and near visual acuity in cases of minimonovision and have the advantage of little side effects compared with trifocal IOLs.
