Abstract Details
Purpose:
To describe a technique for the use of nitinol based instrument for the use of implanting a sutureless scleral fixated intra ocular lens (SFIOL)
Setting:
Tertiary eye care centre
Methods:
The novel nitinol based instrument is passed through the scleral tunnel made for the haptics and is inserted into the anterior chamber through the sclerotomy made at 1.5mm away from the limbus and the haptic that is inserted through the main tunnel is grasped with the same and the haptic is pulled out through the sclerotomy and the scleral tunnel and the haptic is now released and the same is repeated on the opposite side. Once the IOL is centered the instrument is released.
Results:
This technique provides an effective alternative for using a forceps during scleral fixated IOL. There was no surgical complications and the haptic integrity was stable after surgery with no tilt.
Conclusions:
This instrument designed to aid the anterior segment surgeon to use in secondary IOL fixation will be additional tool in their armament.
