Abstract Details
Purpose:
To analyze real-time capsular dynamics during implantation of different intraocular lenses (IOLs).
Setting:
Laboratory, Experimental imaging setup.
Methods:
In a laboratory setup, 3 different types of IOLs were compared: one-piece C-loop haptic IOL (AcrySof SA60AT, Alcon), three-piece C-loop haptic IOL (Sensar AR40e, AMO), and one-piece plate-type IOL (CT Asphina 509MP, Zeiss). We analyzed real-time capsular dynamics during implantation via a new experimental view system using human autopsy eyes and conducted quantitative estimations.
Results:
Using the quantitative estimation of capsular dynamics in three different IOLs, we analyzed the different behaviors of interaction between the haptics, capsular bags, and zonules during implantation. Maximum and mean values of capsular deformation were compared.
Conclusions:
The analysis of capsular dynamics using a new experimental view system revealed the differences in interaction between the IOLs and capsular bags during implantation.
