Abstract Details

Purpose:

To analyze results of treatment of secondary cataract with saving and without saving posterior capsule of the lens

Setting:

Samara State Medical University Health Ministry of Samara, Russia

Methods:

We made a study of the efficiency of surgical treatment of 33 patients (42 eyes) with myopia in 10,0 D-18,0D aged 18 to 50 years old with a secondary cataract developed after phacoemulsification with implantation of a monofocal IOL. The length of the anterior-posterior axis of the eye was from 27.7 to 33.9 mm. The peeling of the posterior lens capsule took place in cases with 17 patients (21 eyes) and laser discise of secondary cataract - in 16 patients (21 eyes).

Results:

The visual acuity of patients was 0.9 - 1.0. Long-term monitoring of patients ranged from 6 months to 2 years. During this time, we had matched relapse of secondary cataract in 4 eyes after peeling and retinal detachment in 2 eyes after laser capsulotomy.
