Abstract Details

Purpose:

Diabetic Retinopathy Is a major cause of blindness among the working age group.According to WHO,India will become one of the major hubs of diabetic population during next two decades. As only limited data is available on the prevalence of DR in general population a need for population based study is highly essential. This is an pliot study to assess the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in self reported cases of diabetes mellitus of raipur city.

Setting:

Base Hospital:Chhattisgarh Charitable Eye hospital,Telibandha, Raipur,Chhattisgarh,India

Methods:

Hospital based Cross Sectional study,which included 500, self reported subjects of Diabetes Mellitus presenting in the OPD Between Oct 2015 till Feb 2016,the diabetic status of these patients was confirmed by Physician.Identified subjects underwent detailed examination,which included Slit Lamp Bimicroscopy and fundus examination using 90D/78D lenses and IDO.the diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy was based on ETDRS scale.For all those patients who showed evidence of DR Fundus Photography was obtained,moreover Pts having CSME and Proliferative diabetic retinopathy underwent and OCT and FFA evaluation.

Results:

The overall prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in self reported case of DM presenting to the OPD was, 28.2%,amongst this ,Mild NPDR 23.4%,Moderate NPDR 2.9%,Severe NPDR 1.4%,PDR 0.58%. Gender wise distribution: Males:-51.77% Females:-48.22% CONCLUSION: The Prevalence of Diabetic Retinopathy was 28.2% in urban population with diabetes in raipur city.This scenario could change in near future as most of these subjects were unaware regarding DR hence should be monitored efficiently.
