Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess efficacy and patient satisfaction after routine cataract surgery and implantation of a new polyfocal bioanalogic intraocular lens (IOL).

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, T. Bata Hospital Zlin, Czech Republic Department of Ophthalmology, University Hospital Kralovske Vinohrady and 3rd Medical Faculty, Prague - Czech Republic Eye Centre SOMICH, Karlovy Vary - Czech Republic Gemini Eye Clinic, Zlin, Czech Republic

Methods:

Routine cataract surgery, ITT population analysis was performed. To the analysis were included 99 patients with bilateral cataract surgery and implantation of polyfocal IOL from 14 sites in Czech Republic. Monocular and binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity, uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), best spectacle-corrected visual acuity for distance (CDVA), best spectacle-corrected visual acuity for near (CNVA), distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA), and distance-corrected intermediate visual acuity were evaluated 12 months after surgery. Contrast sensitivity, solicited reporting of optical phenomena and subjective patient satisfaction was assessed at 12 months postoperatively.

Results:

The mean monocular UDVA was 0.099 ± 0.167 logMAR, the mean monocular CDVA was 0.046 ±0.148 logMAR, the mean monocular UNVA was 0.405 ± 0.188 logMAR, the mean monocular DCNVA was 0.390± 0.160 logMAR, and the mean monocular CNVA was 0.136 ± 0.121 logMAR. Serious Halo was observed in 8,5% ; Glare 5,4% . Contrast sensitivity test proved very good photopic and excellent mesopic CS. Photopic 3cpd 1,84; 6cpd 1,76; 12cpd 1,46 18cpd 1,07 and mesopic 3cpd 1,82; 6cpd 1,78; 12cpd 1,41 18cpd 1,08. Overall subjective subject´s satisfaction was collected; the subjects’ satisfaction was quite obvious, 80,2% express satisfaction in month 12.

Conclusions:

The WIOL–CF polyfocal lens offers very good vision at far and intermediate distance comparable with other types of multifocal IOLs, and relatively good near vision, while the incidence of adverse side phenomena is relatively low.
