Abstract Details

Purpose:

Evaluating reading speed and eye tracking pre and post laser refractive correction using a novel R.A.D.A.R eye tracking evaluation system developed by the Emmetropia Mediterranean Eye Institute Medotics Research & Development department.

Setting:

Emmetropia Mediterranean Eye Institute, Medotics Research and Development department, Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

Methods:

2 cohorts of 10 patients were evaluated. Group 1 consisted of 10 patients undergoing LASIK. Group 2 consisted of 10 patients undergoing transPRK. The 2 cohort's pre and post refractive laser correction reading speed and eye tracking were evaluated using the novel R.A.D.A.R eye tracking system. The hardware and software of R.A.D.A.R were developed by the Emmetropia Medotics Research & Development department. The preoperative patients were evaluated with their current best spectacle corrected visual acuity. Myopic patients with a refractive error between -3.00 and -10.00 were included.

Results:

Reading speed and eye tracking behaviour pre and post refractive laser surgery was evaluated. Early results show statistically significant trends in the data in specific and non-specific reading parameters using the R.A.D.A.R system.

Conclusions:

A novel R.A.D.A.R eye tracking system may show improvement in specific and non-specific reading parameters in patients post refractive laser surgery. Previously there has been no objective way to measure postoperative reading parameters. The R.A.D.A.R eye tracking system is a brand new assessment tool which may assist clinicians to unlock significant objective measurements in the postoperative eye tracking and reading parameters.
