Abstract Details

Purpose:

To compare the 3 months visual and refractive outcomes using FS200®(Alcon) and FEMTO LDV®(Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems, Port, Switzerland) planar femtosecond platforms and the Hansatome® (Bausch & Lomb) mechanical microkeratome, in a myopic population younger than 40 years old with preoperative best corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA) ≥1 (decimal), when used in conjunction with the Allegretto® (WaveLight Laser Technologie AG) excimer laser.

Setting:

Clínica Novovisión, Madrid, Spain. Clínica Rementería, Madrid, Spain. Hospital Universitario Príncipe de Asturias, Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.

Methods:

This is a retrospective, observational cohort study, that included 417 consecutive eyes divided in three groups; 202 eyes treated with the FS200 (F) were compared to 112 refraction-matched eyes treated with FEMTO LDV (Z) and with 98 refraction-matched eyes treated with Hansatome (H). All surgeries were performed by the same surgeon (MGG). Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), (BCDVA) and refractive results were evaluated 1 day, 1 week, 1 and 3 months after surgery. The visual and refractive results were compared with a factorial ANOVA test.

Results:

At one and seven day post-op visits, UDVA was found significantly lower in F than Z and H groups (0,95±0,17 vs 1,08±0,14 vs 1,01±0,14) (p=0,0001), (0,94±0,17 vs 1,13±0,12 vs 1,07±0,18) (p=0,0001), respectively. No significant difference in the UDVA was found at the one and the three month post-op visits. At three month post-op visit, the safety index (1,04±0,20 vs 1,00±0,09 vs 0,95±0,09) (P=0,0001) and the residual sphere (-0,07±0,18 vs 0,02±0,14 vs 0,005±0,14) (P=0,0001) were found to be significantly different between groups, whereas no significant differences were found in either the BCDVA, the residual cylinder or the efficacy index.

Conclusions:

Myopia correction is safe and effective when is performed with FS200®, Femto LDV® and Hansatome® in combination with Allegretto® excimer laser. In fact, we found equal visual results in all groups at the three-month follow up visit. Nevertheless, we observed a slightly slower visual recovery in FS200® group.
