Abstract Details

Purpose:

The aim was to determine the agreement in keratometric readings measured with the Cassini and IOL Master 700.

Setting:

nordBLICK Augenklinik Bellevue GmbH

Methods:

In virgin eyes, agreement among keratometry readings of two devices was examined using the Pearson r test. The correlation coefficient were calculated. Comparisons were made for keratometric readings of the flat and steep meridians as maximum keratometry (max-K), minimum keratometry (min-K) and their average (mean-K). All the eyes also has been check with with Axial length(AL) to make sure they are fall into normal eye range with a AL between 22.5 to 26mm.

Results:

Based on IOL Master 700 measurements, averages of max-K, min-K and mean-K were 43.11+2.25,42.15+2.38 and 42.63+2.31D, respectively. The difference is 0.40+0.28D and 0.50+0.30D for IOL M vs Cassini SimK and EKR in Mean K with high correlation coefficient of 0.99 and 0.98, respectively. The difference is 0.33+0.28D, and 0.46+0.43D for IOL M vs Cassini SimK and EKR in astigmatism with the correlation coefficient of 0.52 and 0.24, respectively. The pearson r test also revealed a medium correlation coefficient of 0.70 and 0.65 for J0, 0,45 and 0,53 for J45, in IOL M vs Cassini SimK and EKR, respectively.

Conclusions:

These two devices - based on state-of-the-art anterior corneal measurement technology IOL Master 700 and direct total cornea measurement Cassini TCA - showed high correlation in terms of keratometry for calculation of the spherical intraocular lens power in average. But revealed less correlation in Toric IOL lens power calculation. Especially in some individual cases the fixed anterior/posterior ratio vs actual total cornea measurement may differ in Toric lens calculation.
