Abstract Details

Purpose:

After surgery of penetrating keratoplasty high regular astigmatism remained in this 2 demonstrated cases. Our aim is to demonstrate the efficiency of implantation of individual-made toric intraocular lenses during cataract surgery.

Setting:

Markusovszky University Teaching Hospital

Methods:

Penetrating keratoplasty was made in a 74 years old female patient (A) 32 years ago and in a 64 years old female patient (B) 22 years ago. After surgery high regular astigmatism remained (15,1 D 71° and 18,6 D 61°). During the second surgery that was made because of cataract that was formed in the meantime, individual-made toric intraocular lenses were implanted. Into the eye of patient A SEQ: + 22,0 D, Cyl: +21,0 D, into patient B SEQ: + 4,0 D, Cyl: + 27,0 D Medicontur Toric 690 TBY type artificial lenses implanted.

Results:

In patient A the visual acuity of operated right eye was 3,5 D cyl 155°= 0,1 preoperatively, 2 weeks after surgery was 1,0; 8 months after surgery was 0,8 and 2 years after surgery is 0,7 . The visual impairment is explained by forming of epiretinal membrane in the macula. In patient B the visual acuity in operated right eye was +5,5 D -5,5 Dcyl 180° = 0,02 preoperatively; 2 weeks after surgery was 0,95; after 1,5 years is 0,9 .

Conclusions:

During cataract surgery after penetrating keratoplasty with implantation of individual-made bitoric convex-concave intraocular lenses efficient visual improvement was achieved in both cases.
