Abstract Details

Purpose:

to evaluate topography guided ablation profile for the treatment of simple , compound and mixed astigmatism

Setting:

Dar El Oyoun Specialized Eye Hospitals, Egypt

Methods:

40 eyes with astigmatism ranging from 1.5-4.5D , with or without spherical errors ranging fromn +2 to -6D where enrolled. All underwent Femto assisted Lasik using the Wavelight FS200 femtolaser and the Alcon Wavelight EX500 Excimer laser. All eyes were treated using the T-CAT topography based algorithms. All had a preoperative workup that included scheimpflug imaging ,topography ,Q value recording ,BCVA and UCVA. All intended postoperative Qvalues was aimed at -0.40. All eyes had the same evaluation 6 weeks postoperatively.

Results:

All eyes were within +/_ 0.5 Diopters SE. All had good postoperative topographies with a mean Q value of -0.22. All eyes had an UCVA of 1.0.

Conclusions:

Topography based algorithms are accurate and effective in the treatment of naturally occuring 'virgin'astigmatism and should not be only preserved for irregular corneas or those with previous complicated corneal surgeries.
