Abstract Details

Purpose:

To evaluate the refractive outcomes, quality of vision and visual outcomes at distance, intermediate and near following implantation of the WIOL-CF bioanalogic polyfocal intraocular lens.  The lens optics are designed to extend the depth of focus (EDOF). 

Setting:

Private Ambulatory Surgical Centre- Centre for Sight, UK

Methods:

Prospective evaluation of data of 10 consecutive patients (20 eyes) undergoing bilateral implantation of the bioanalogic, polyfocal WIOL-CF lens implant (Medicem) following femtosecond laser (Victus laser, Bausch and Lomb-Technolas, Munich Germany) surgery were analysed. The target refraction for the dominant eye was plano and the non-dominant eye -0.50D. Visual data (UDVA, CDVA, UNVA and Uncorrected intermediate vision at 60 and 80cm), refractive outcomes were collected at 1 month and 3 months following surgery.

Results:

Mean age at surgery was 70 years (59 to 84). At 3 months 95% of eyes were within 1.0D of emmetropia and 55% within 0.50D. Preoperative Spherical equivalent was reduced at 3 month from - -1.18 D ± 4.08 D (range -9.25 to 4.25) to mean -0.05 D ± 0.71 D° (range -1.75 to 1.50) At 3 months. UDVA was 20/25 or better in 70% monocular and 90% binocular. UNVA (40cm) was 20/40 or better in 85% monocular and 100% binocular. UIVA(60cm) was20/25 or better in 55% monocular and 95% binocular.

Conclusions:

The WIOL-CF IOL bio-analogic polyfocal lens is an extended depth of focus implant that provides good functional vision at distance, intermediate and near and is a good option for presbyopia correction.
