Session Title: Surface Photoablation

Session Date/Time: Monday 12/09/2016 | 14:30-16:30

Abstract Details

Purpose:

To report the indications ,outcomes, and decision making guidelines of the enhancement procedure[surface ablation or flat lift]

Setting:

American laser refractive centers, Israel.

Methods:

Retrospective, non-randomized, study about 237 consecutive eyes of 148 patients from 2012 to 2014 who had primary LASIK or PRK between 2011 and 2013.All the cases were diagnosed and treated by the same surgeon [M.TAIEB].

Results:

The 237 eyes of 148 patients had primary myopic [129 patients]and hyperopic [19 patients]procedure. The myopic patients are divided in 3 groups :flap lift after LASIK [only 1]PRK after LASIK [76]and PRK after PRK [52].The mean age at the first myopic procedure was 26 years old. The mean myopic spherical equivalent enhancement was -1.353 dioptre[the highest -2.75].96.1%of the myopic patients had also a myopic enhancement. The hyperopic patients[19] are divided in 2 groups : flap lift after LASIK[4 patients]PRK after LASIK [15 patients].The mean hyperopic spherical equivalent enhancement was +1.295 diopter.[the highest +3].

Conclusions:

Both retreatment techniques were effective ,safe and predictable. Flap lift is a technically challenged procedure as compared to the surface ablation after LASIK.Surface ablation on the LASIK flap demands special and meticulous haze prevention. PRK after PRK seems a relatively easy surgical decision with always good outcomes.
