Abstract Details

Purpose:

Comparison of refractive and aberrometric outcomes with the latest technology of wavefront-guided (WFG) ablation using a high resolution aberrometer for treatment planning versus small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) procedure.

Setting:

Horus Vision Correction Center, Alexandria, Egypt.

Methods:

A prospective, comparative masked study including 2 groups: WFG group: Star S4 IR + iDesign Wavefront-Guided ablation (AMO) , and SMILE group: Visumax (Zeiss) with small incision lenticule extraction. Refractive outcomes are evaluated preoperatively, 1, 3, and 6 months after surgery. Contrast Sensitivity and HOA’s for a 5mm, 6 mm, and 7 mm pupil diameter are measured preop and 6 months post op

Results:

Results shows that WFG LASIK was significantly better than smile for astigmatism correction. There was a more significant induction of coma in the smile group.

Conclusions:

Preliminary conclusion shows that WFG LASIK is more accurate regarding astigmatic correction than Smile and induces less coma. This might be due to the centration technique of the smile procedure and the lack of iris registration and cyclorotation compensation
