Abstract Details

Purpose:

To assess the rotational stabilty, decentration, tilt and visual outcome of an aspheric hydrophobic acrylic intraocularlens with C-loop haptics. The intraocularlens in our study is the Hoya Vivinex iSert P261.

Setting:

Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria

Methods:

122 eyes of 66 patients recieved a Hoya Vivinex iSert P261 IOL. The position of the IOL was captured right on the operation table. One hour, one week, one month and four to six months later a retroilluminationphotgraphy was made to compare the IOL position with the initial IOL axis on the operation table. Further main outcomes like visual acuity, decentration and tilt, contrast visual acuity, postoperative anterior chamber depth and anterior fibrosis were assessed during the follow up visits.

Results:

From the initial 122 included eyes in this study we were able to evaluate the rotational stabilty of 103 IOLs after 6 months. The mean IOL rotation after 6 months was 1,5 ± 1,2° degrees [range: 0 to 5,0°]. There was no IOL which rotated more than 5 degrees after 6 months. Lens decentration and tilt were measured by the Purkinje meter after 6 months. The mean decentration was 0,32 ± 0,26 mm [range 0,04 to 1,74 mm].

Conclusions:

Rotational stability was excellent for all tested IOL`s, not a single IOL rotated more than 5° from end of surgery up to 4-6 months.
