Abstract Details

Purpose:

We previously reported the accuracy of the anterior-posterior method (A-P method) based on the data measured using the Scheimpflug system that does not require historical data to calculate intraocular lens (IOL) powers after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK)(Saiki M, et. al. J Catarat Refract Surg 2013). In the current study, we evaluated the accuracy of the A-P method using the data obtained by anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (A-P method for AS-OCT).

Setting:

Keio University Hospital, Tokyo, Japan.

Methods:

We evaluated the medical records of 20 eyes of 15 patients (mean age, 51.7 years; range, 26-75 years) who underwent cataract surgery after LASIK at Keio University Hospital, Tokyo, Japan. The prediction error, defined as the difference between the estimated postoperative spherical equivalent using the A-P method for AS-OCT and the postoperative manifest refraction at the spectacle plane, was calculated.

Results:

The median values of the arithmetic and absolute prediction errors were -0.09 diopter (D) and 0.49 D, respectively. The prediction errors were within ± 0.50 D in 55% of eyes and within ± 1.00 D in 80%.

Conclusions:

The A-P method for AS-OCT may be a good option for calculating IOL powers in eyes undergoing cataract surgery after LASIK.
