Abstract Details
Purpose:
Centration and size of a manually made capsulorhexis
Setting:
AugenCentrum. 83022 Rosenheim (Germany), Bahnhofstrasse 12
Methods:
The rhexis is manually performed under the microscope with forceps. A computer based assistance system (Callisto) is used. The rhexis is superimposed on the capsule of the lens an imaged in der right ocular. Automatic detection of the limbal region helps to center der rhexis projection. 50 patients have been evaluated: diameter and contraption of the rhexis are measured. Centration of the IOL and the overlapping of the rhexis on the IOL are examined.
Results:
The limbal region has been detected within all patients. This is also the case if the limbal region is compromised. Centration of the rhexis allways made the overlapping of the rhexis on the IOL in all cases possible. Rhexis size was not smaller than 4,5 and not larger than 5,5 mm. This projection of the iris helped especially in eyes with asymmetric papillae.
Conclusions:
To create the the rhexis as large as possible and as round as possible can be achieved with help of an surgical assistance system.
