Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes, as well as the reproducability of Small Incision Lenticule implantation, in unilateral aphakia in which secondry IOL is
not possible to preform.
Setting:
Roaya vision center, Alexandria, Egypt
Methods:
SMILE was prformed to correct the astigmatic element then a fresh lenticule from a myopic donor was implanted instead.
Results:
4 eyes of 4 patients underwent SMILE followed by donor lenticle implantation procedure.
Mean follow up was 4 months (range 2-6 months). The mean UCVA (Snellen decimal) changed from 0.05 (range, 0.01-0.1) preoperatively to 0.3 (range, 0.1-
0.5) postoperatively. The mean BCVA changed from 0.3 (range, 0.1-0.5) preoperatively to (range, 0.1-0.6) 0.3 at last follow-up postoperatively. There was no loss of lines of UCVA nor BCVA in any of our patients postoperatively.
Conclusions:
partial-thickness corneal tissue graft is inserted into the cornea. The graft or 'lenticule' can cause a change in the corneal surface profile, and so alter the cornea's refractive power. ReLimp can be a safe predictable and stable treatment option
