Abstract Details
Purpose:
To report the refractive outcomes of ReLEx SMILE in compound myopic and simple myopic astigmatism.
Setting:
ReLEx SMILE surgery using the Zeiss 500 KHz Visumax Femtosecond laser at TRSC International LASIK center, Bangkok, Thailand
Methods:
Retrospective review and analysis of patients who underwent ReLEx SMILE for refractive error correction from July 2010 to February 2016 was conducted. The data was divided into 2 groups, compound myopic astigmatism (group I) 7,431 eyes and simple myopic astigmatism (group II) 75 eyes (spherical refraction between -0.5 to +0.5D). The outcome measurements include uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), manifest refraction (MR) were recorded at preoperative, one month and one year period.
Results:
The mean preoperative spherical and cylindrical refraction was -4.91±2.24D, -0.97±0.73D in group I and -0.19±0.35D, -2.19±1.33D in group II. The mean postoperative spherical and cylindrical refraction at 1 month and 1 year was 0.30±0.36D, -0.19±0.36D and 0.24±0.32D, -0.23±0.36D in group I, 0.40±0.38D, -0.10±0.48D and 0.38±0.41D, -0.19±0.60D in group II. At 1 year, the UCVA ≥ 20/20 in group I and II was 89.69%, 78.79% and ≥ 20/40 was 99.28%, 100%. The BCVA in group I and II gain ≥ 1line 36.85% and 21.21%, loss ≥ 1 line 7.03% and 9.09% and unchanged 56.12% and 69.70%.
Conclusions:
The results of astigmatic correction with ReLEx SMILE appeared to be safe and effective in both groups. The data showed high accuracy, predictability, safety with good stability. The simple myopic astigmatism group showed good result similar to compound myopic astigmatism.
