Abstract Details
Purpose:
To develop the criteria for selecting patients with ametropia of different degree for the refractive surgery
Setting:
The Academician S.N. Fyodorov FSАI IRTC “Eye Microsurgery” Tambov branch, Tambov, Russia
Methods:
21 patients (21eyes) with anisometropic amblyopia and spectacle/contact lens intolerance aged 8 to 15 years underwent LASIK surgery according to standard technique. High myopia – 2 operations, mixed and simple myopic astigmatism 3-7 D – 7 operations, high and average hypermetropia with astigmatism up to 7 D – 12 operations.
Results:
In 14 cases we reached the uncorrected visual acuity that was equal to the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) prior to the surgery (up to 0.4 – 6 eyes, 0.5-0.7 – 10 eyes, up to 0.8-0.9 – 5 eyes); visual acuity improvement of 1 line was noted in 2 patients compared with BCVA, of 2 lines – in 4 patients, 3 lines – in 1 patients.
Conclusions:
In spectacle/contact lens intolerance in high ametropia LASIK surgery is necessary being the main stage of amblyopia treatment in children.
