Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the role of RT-VUE Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) in critical situations of decision making in cornea and refractive surgeries, glaucoma treatment protocols
Setting:
Modern Eye Hospital & Research Centre, Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, India.
Methods:
Prospective, observational, Non-comparative case series, that included 38 eyes of 19 patients who consulted our daily Out Patient department, over a period of 6 months. Most of them were patients of corneal ectasia, corneal lesions as corneal scars, dystrophies & degenerations, post LASIK Regression & patients who have come for refractive surgery & glaucoma patients with angle suspects.
Results:
OCT cornea map helps us in evaluating corneal thickness, prior to refractive surgery, also for assessing the flap thickness, Residual stromal bed, to know if there is adequate stroma left for reablation in enhancement and in diagnosing keratoconus by pachy map. It also helps in calculating the depth of lesions in corneal disorders as salzmannās nodular degeneration, Climactic droplet keratopathy, corneal scars and corneal dystrophies thus helps in deciding the type of corneal surgery as Superficial anterior lamellar keratoplasty, Deep anterior Lamellar keratoplasty, PTK, PKP. In keratoconus patients to make channels using Femtosecond laser for insertion of ring segments.
Conclusions:
Anterior segment OCT has become a powerful tool for analyzing and studying the corneal diseases & for management protocols. Being more rapid, Non-contact, Non-invasive and user friendly investigation, RT-VUE OCT has become a main investigation in the armamentarium of corneal & Refractive surgery.
