Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the affecting factors on postoperative glaucoma incidence after pediatric cataract surgery.
Setting:
Inje University Haeundae Paik Hospital
Methods:
A retrospective chart review was performed with the patients who underwent pediatric cataract surgery by 1 surgeon from June 1998 to December 2014. The incidence of postoperative glaucoma was evaluated and the patients were divided 2 groups according to the occurrence of postoperative glaucoma. Postoperative data was collected at 1, 3, 6, 12 months. Gender, cataract type, laterality of cataract, age at diagnosis, age at surgery, optic capture, axial length, keratometry and usage of glaucomatous agent were reviewed.
Results:
Total 206 eyes reviewed and 15 eyes (7.3%) were diagnosed with postoperative glaucoma. Gender, laterality of cataract, axial length and keratometry were not significantly different in postoperative glaucoma group compared to the non-postoperative glaucoma group. Age at diagnosis and age at surgery were significantly younger at glaucoma group. Aphakia and no optic capture was associated postoperative glaucoma.
Conclusions:
Younger age at surgery and diagnosis, aphakic, and no optic capture were significantly associated with increased risk of postoperative glaucoma. So patients who have risk factors of postoperative glaucoma, may require extensive postoperative care.
