Abstract Details
Purpose:
To evaluate the refractive and topographic results of the ICR implantation in the treatment of Irregular Cornea in Keratoconus before Cataract Surgery.
Setting:
Dunya Eye Hospital Istanbul Turkey
Methods:
In this prospective case series, 4 patients (8 eyes) with keratoconus and cataract were included. None of the patients were not suitable for contact lens. The mean age was 56 (52-64) All patients underwent intracorneal ring segments implantation, followed by Facoemulsification and Intraocular Lens implantation Cataract Surgery. The follow-up period was 12 months after the last procedure for all patients. Time interval between intracorneal ring segments implantation and Facoemulsification and Intraocular Lens implantation Cataract Surgery was 6 months.
Results:
The mean Flat K value decreased from 50,2 to 49.3 and the steep K value decreased from 56,6 to 52.2, the mean corneal astigmatism decreaseed from 6.4 to 2.9 after ICR implantation. LogMAR mean uncorrected distance visual acuity and mean corrected distance visual acuity improved from 0,02±0,01 and 0.15±0.2 preoperatively, to 0.68±0.07 and 0.72±0.04 after the completion of the 2-step procedure, respectively.
Conclusions:
Intracorneal ring segments implantation followed by facoemulsification and Intraocular Lens implantation Cataract Surgery; 2-step procedure seems to be an effective treatment in Keratoconus with highly irregular cornea and cataract patients.
